Welcome to VIBUG

VIBUG is the Visually Impaired and Blind User Group, serving blind and visually impaired computer users primarily in Massachusetts. If you'd like to know more about us, you can download our flyer, which is available as a Microsoft Word document, or a braille formatted file. We encourage you to share this flyer with people you think would be interested in our computer users group.

VIBUG membership costs $20 a year. You may join VIBUG by coming to a meting and paying your dues by cash or check. Or, if you prefer, you can mail your check to:

Notice of VIBUG Meeting

The next meeting of VIBUG will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on the campus of MIT, 77 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA, Building 5, Room 134.

In addition to announcements and our usual question and answer period, we will have 3 presentations:

  1. Tim Cumings will demonstrate the GW Micro Skype application which is far more accessible than the native Skype program.
  2. Just in time to help us to prepare our taxes, David Kingsbury will demonstrate the TurboTax online application.
  3. Students from MIT with whom we have met before will be bringing a prototype of a tactile watch that they are developing to get feedback from the group.

A few reminders:

If you are a paid 2012 member and want to attend meetings online, please send an email to president@vibug.org and I will send you the password for online participation.

If you are a member in good standing, and want to join the VIBUg Member Support email list, plese send an email to president@vibug.org requesting that you be added and I will send you an invitation.

Finally, now that winter is here, if the meeting is canceled due to inclement weather, I will send an email by 6:00 A.M. on the day of the meeting. In addition a message will be available in the VIBUG mailbox, 617-383-9560 advising of any cancelation or change.

On-Line Participation Available to VIBUG Members

Members in good standing are invited to join us for meetings online in real time. All members will be given the password for the online chat room when their dues is received by our treasurer and/or president.

Members are reminded not to share this password with anyone who is not a VIBUG member. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in loss of online participation privileges.

On the day of the meeting, go to the VIBUG Meeting Room, and click on the link to install a small plugin if you are visiting the room for the first time. Once the plugin has been installed, click on the link to enter the room. Enter your name at the Username prompt, and your password when asked for a password.
