Welcome to VIBUG

VIBUG is the Visually Impaired and Blind User Group, serving blind and visually impaired computer users in Massachusetts. VIBUG membership costs $20 a year. You may join VIBUG by coming to a meting and paying your dues by cash or check. Or, if you prefer, you can mail your check to:
Jim Roberts, VIBUG Treasurer
20 Mount Vernon Street
Boston MA 02108
All checks should be made payable to VIBUG.

If you'd like to receive VIBUG meeting notices, as well as other announcements of interest to blind and visually impaired computer users, feel free to join the VIBUG mailing list.

VIBUG meets on the second Saturday of every month, except July and August.

The next meeting of VIBUG will be held on Saturday, June 13 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M., at National Braille Pres, 88 St. Stephen Street, Boston.

In addition to our question and answer period and brief announcements, Mika Pyykhala will demonstrate social networking sites to the group, including Facebook and Twitter. Time permitting, we will also have a brief demonstration of the new NLS portable player by David Kingsbury.

Barry Scheur of Talking Solutions, Inc. will announce the launch of three new low cost audio products that his company is marketing, and demo them for the first time at our meeting.

The most exciting is the Stream Sound, a very small battery powered speaker that significantly increases the volume of the Victor Stream and other devices while preserving excellent sound quality. Weighing only 1.5 ounces with a plug that attaches directly into the stream and can be carried with it easily, this speaker runs for over 50 hours on 2 AAA batteries, and costs $25.00.

The two other products are low cost and easy-to-use 4 GB screenless MP3 players. Both are tiny - one clips to your shirt, and the other is molded into a unisex jewelry pendant that can be worn around the neck. The standard player is priced at $30, and the fashion player will be priced at $40.00.

Limited quantities will be available for purchase at the meeting. VIBUG will get the first chance to see these new products before they are marketed extensively during the summer.

A reminder to members: You are not considered a VIBUG member in good standing if you have not paid your dues for calendar year 2009. To pay your membership dues for the 2009 calendar year, send a check made payable to VIBUG to our treasurer, Jim Roberts, at 20 Mount Vernon Street, Boston, MA 02108.

Attention please! Since I will be absent for this meeting, if you want to participate online, please send an email to Steve Dresser with the words "online participation" in the subject line no later than June 11, and he will send you the link and this month's password. Please remember that this option is only available to members whose dues have been received by our Treasurer.

If you need further information or have questions, please email president@vibug.org or leave a message in the VIBUG mailbox at 617-266-6160, ext. 48.
