Maria Rueters, VIBUG President, called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. After introductions, the minutes of the November 13th meeting were read by Dennis Brady, VIBUG Clerk. The minutes were accepted as read. The President then received the treasurer’s report delivered by Jim Roberts, VIBUG Treasurer, and is summarized as follows: Income, $569.90; beginning balance $3892.70; expenditures, $2714.01; ending balance, $1378.69.
Jeanette spoke about the advantages of being a member of VIBUG. These advantages include the right to vote, attend member classes and seminars, and she pointed out that without money we couldn’t maintain the website, or purchase the new computer. The President thanked Cheryl and Rhonda for their work on the Christmas Party which was, by all accounts, a great success. Members were reminded that in case of inclement weather, a message would be left in the VIBUG mailbox no later than 8:00 a.m. on meeting day. Call (617) 266-6160, ext. 48.
Fidelity Investments is looking for persons with low vision to test the accessibility of their website from 01-31-05 to 02-04-05. Interested persons should contact Marguerite Bergel at Marguerite.bergel@fmr.com, or by phone at 617-392-2069.
Joanne Becker will demonstrate Mobile-Speak at the meeting, and in March, Joe Lazarro will demonstrate a website that he uses that identifies what is on his cd’s. In April, Barry Scheur will demonstrate his products which include a medicine labeler a web radio and other products.
Jeanette reminded members to update their membership information with her, or on the website.
After computer questions, Brian Charlson demonstrated and discussed course offerings of their newly expanded programs which allow people to take courses related to computer adaptive equipment online. The cost of each course is $100.
