Date of Meeting: May 11, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by President Amy Ruell. Following introductions, the minutes were read and approved as written.

Amy made these announcements.

Winamp 2.80 is now available for download. Before using it, disable winamp agent.

Window-eyes set files for Word do not currently work with Nvidia video cards. GW Microw is aware of and working on the problem.

Books can be purchased from Audible.com. For a demonstration of how this service works, listen to the May 29 main menu on ACB-Radio. Also, for a limited time some free books are being offered to ACB listeners. Audible.com is working to make the site more accessible.

For the foreseeable future, Vibug meetings will beheld at the library. Therefore, People who have laptops will be asked to volunteer their use for computer demonstrations. Next month's topic has not yet been determined. Notification of this will occur as soon as possible.

Amy has transported the VIBUG computer to her house for safe keeping while NBP is undergoing renovations. Windows and some applications have been updated, system maintenance performed, and unnecessary files eliminated.

Maria Rueters will get back to Amy regarding purchasing a larger monitor for VIBUG.

Amy reminded people to visit our website as it has recently been updated.

Amy asked for volunteers for the nominating committee.Pauleen Downing, Bob Gildea, and Pamela Loch volunteered.

NBP now has DSL which will be available toVIBUG, probably at no charge, when we return following the renovations.

We discussed the following issues. We believe there is merit in exploring the use of a chat facility, and the possibility of setting up some meetings using this option. This would provide us with the opportunity to share meetings with other groups, and facilitate participation by geographically distant members. We discussed the possibility of having classes on line, and having some evening classes and/or meetings.

We considered the idea of dividing the duties of the president; we agreed that other members could assist with tasks such as organizing presentations and contacting presenters.

We agreed to form an outreach committee. Members include Pauline, Amy, Rick and Jack. This committee will generate ideas for increasing our membership and welcoming and meeting the needs of new members.

A mentoring committee was formed. Members are Maria, Bob, Pam, Nelia, and Jeanette. This committee will generate ideas for developing a mentoring program to provide technical support to VIBUG members.

It was suggested that we consider offering more raffles, door prizes, and contests to participants.

The creation of a faq for the website was discussed.

This meeting was adjourned following discussion of these issues at 4:00 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,
Jeanette Kutash
VIBUG Clerk
