Date of Meeting: November 10, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. by Amy Ruell president. Following the reading and acceptance of the minutes, we discussed the holiday party. People were reminded to contact Judy Cammett-Sommer at jcsommer@mediaone.net or by phone at (617) 773-1397, and to let her know whether they would be bringing food, helping with setting up, or helping with cleaning up after the event.

Amy told us that John Mattioli would be demonstrating Windows XP in January and that in February Kim Charlsson would be demonstrating webbraille. Amy said that she had found a tutorial on Windows Millenium that could be purchased; arrangements will be made to get it to Pauline and Ginny to be placed in our library.

Amy announced that The beta of Jaws 4.01 is now available; it is reported as working well with windows XP. Amy announced that people who use roadrunner would be interested in knowing that Roadrunner technical assistance will still be available from the original manufacturers, but that since they are no longer in business either NFB or APH may be taking over the manufacturing of the product. She also told us that Benetech is looking for volunteers to work on the bookshare project. Volunteers would need to be willing to read books and write synopses.

Amy also told us that Brian Hartgen had written some scripts for word 2000 and they were available from his website. Also, Jim Snowburger has written some scripts to work with Instant Messenger, version 4.5.

Amy announced that the Norwood library has recently obtained a grant for some adaptive technology and is looking for assistance with training in the use of the technology, and is as well interested in possibly providing information in Braille formats throughout the interlibrary network system. They are interested in assistance from Vibug and will provide assistance with transportation if Vibug assists.

Don Breda announced that Chip Warner has developed a program which works with all versions of instant messenger. It advises people about things such as swearing, and some of the information that appears on the screen which is otherwise not accessible. It is available from:
www.skidmore.com.

Tim stated that the links are up so that people can now send e-mail to Ginny and Pauline if they wish to borrow from our library. Amy told us that she currently anticipated that in either February or March NBP would be putting in their new elevator and we would not be able to meet at that facility. Tim suggested meeting in the library's media room or in one of the conference rooms. Amy said she would investigate alternative meeting places, and would give people notice about the change when it was available. She also reminded people that if a meeting had to be cancelled because of snow she would put the announcement on the tape by 7:00 a.m.

Following Don Breda's demonstration of Adaptec 5.0's easy CD creator, the meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted
