VIBUG MEETING MINUTES

Date of Meeting: April 8, 2023

When: 1:00 to3:30 p.m.

Jerry Berrier, Vice President, called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. Following introductions, the following announcements were made.

Tim Cumings, webmaster, announced that we do have an updated SSL certificate so no one should be getting any more security warnings about our site not being secure when you come to the website.

John Smith, Treasurer, announced nothing has been paid out; nothing has been received. We still have 32 current members. We are always looking for new members. You can join by going to the VIBUG website.

Jerry stated that we have a surprising number of people who have not paid dues in two years. If you think you are one of those people, check your account, or check with Margaret Gaffney, Vice President, or John Smith, treasurer, and they will take a look at the list to see when you last paid. Within the next month we are going to look at the list and send a letter encouraging people to pay their dues if they want to remain active with the group.

Jeanette Kutash, Vibug Clerk, stated that Tim has the minutes except for the March minutes as she needs to make a few corrections.

Two students from Mass. Eye and Ear are doing a study regarding chat GPT and its use. They shared contact information for those who might be interested in assisting with this study. It should also be noted that they have worked on the app "All Aboard" and found some discrepancies when evaluating their app against the google maps. David Kingsbury announced that on Wednesday there will be a webinar introducing the second edition of his book "using Windows with Screen Readers, office, etc. To sign up you can go to the website: carroll.org or he can post the link to the list, or you can email: davidkingsbury77@gmail.com to get more information.<

Eric announced that the Boston Accessibility Meet Up Group meets on the evening of the third Thursday of the month. On April 20th, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., the focus will be on opportunities and challenges of AI for accessibility. If Eric sendds the link to:jerry berrier he will share it with Jeanette and it can be added to the minutes.

Nick Corbett introduced us to an earth-shaking new product called Chat GPT.

Isabella Pedraza and friends from MIT talked to us about an ongoing accessible data visualization study for which they are seeking participants.
