Date of Meeting: September 14, 2024
When: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Virtually
The meeting was called to order by Frank Ventura at 1:05 p.m. Following introductions, the following announcements were made.
Frank Ventura, President, announced that Jeanette Kutash, Clerk, John Smith, treasurer, and Tim Cumings, Webmaster, were all on vacation.
Margaret announced that Apple had come out with information about the start of the AI on the iPhone 16, although the iPhone 15 Pro's and Iphone 15 Macs will have the same features but will roll out more slowly.
There is a new button on the iPhone 16 which is used to control the camera. You can touch it, swipe it, tap and double-tap it. It will be interesting to see what voice-over does with that.
Apple introduced two new apple watch Series 10's. There are 4 different sizes, and they come in aluminum and titanium--no more stainless steel, and all the displays are larger.
On the watch, you do 30 days, and it will tell you if you have sleep apnea. You will now be able to record phone calls on the watch in the software. There's a little button on the top when you are making a phone call and for voice-over you just double-tap that button. It just says "record call" and it will tell you and the other person on the other end that your phone conversation is being recorded. And when it records it it will put it into the notes folder.
They have started some of the AI generation stuff but they didn't put a whole lot in it yet. Margaret has the impression that some of the display may wrap around the wrist. Some of the lower ones come in more colors, and some of the more advanced ones come in less colors, black, white and neutral.
There is software for the iPod Pros that will implement hearing aid discovery and hearing aid enhancement so that your iPod Pro second generation will become if needed an over-the-counter hearing aid, and you can go into the software, take a hearing test and it will tell you whether you have hearing loss or not and you can go in and adjust the iPod pro's.
On the iPhones you can now put all the voices in your rotor and change the voices on the fly in the rotor. You can also change your speed and rate in the rotor for each voice. You can also now put the detection of what is around you, like the detection of doors, or detection of reading images, or detection of reading texts in the rotor.
Following questions and answers, the following demonstrations occurred:
Jerry Berrier described his personal experiences with using a new 40 cell braille display and keyboard called the Mantis.
Margaret Gaffney spoke to us about some new changes in the Instacart app and website.
Following these demonstrations the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Jeanette Kutash, Vibug Clerk
