VIBUG's mission is:
- To exchange information and advice among visually impaired technology users
- To expand computer literacy within the visually impaired community
- To provide a resource for community members, developers, and students who are interested in developing mainstream and/or adaptive products to be used by blind people
To further these objectives, VIBUG is engaged in the following activities:
- Conducts monthly meetings on the second Saturday of the month, excluding July, August, and January, at MIT, (77 Massachusetts Avenue, Building 5, room 134, Cambridge)
- Maintains an archive of classes, demonstrations, and Q and A sessions which can be listened to or downloaded by the public
- A technical support email list for members
- An option for members to join meetings and to participate in real time online
The highlights of each meeting include:
- A demonstration of the use of mainstream and/or adaptive technology that can be productively used with speech, braille, or large print
- A question and answer period where Meeting attendees can get assistance with technological challenges
